Introduction

Every hoof trimmer is expected to adhere to the professions Code of Ethics. The two functions of the code of ethics are :

  • Communication of ideals of the profession to the public and to members.
  • A code of ethics is to be used as a guide for professional ethical conduct


This code does not provide an answer to every ethical question of the members of the hoof trimmers association and that the members should bear reason and have a common sense approach in interpretation and in following the ethical principals embodied in the code.

Preamble

The code of ethics is based upon professionalism, honor and competence of the Hoof trimming practice and lies in a just and reasonable Code of Ethics. Hoof Trimmers promote good health in cattle and practices of bovine claw trimming.

Hoof Trimmers also practice corrective trimming as to alleviate pain and discomfort in diseased bovine claws. The purpose of the code of ethics is to provide guidance to the Hoof trimmer and/or assistants for carrying out professional responsibilities so as to meet the ethical obligations of the profession.

Code of Ethics

  1. Hoof Trimmers Association members and their employees should be familiar with the handling of cattle and should make every attempt in safe passage and conduct of the animal and themselves as to avoid any pain discomfort or distress with consideration given to the natural movements, physical capabilities and or limitations.

  2. Hoof trimmers Association members should be willing to provide by service of bovine claw trimming, alleviation of claw discomfort within discernable means in whichever chosen modality.

  3. Hoof Trimmers Association members should remain competent thru timely continued education on the subject of bovine hoof health

  4. Hoof Trimmers Association members should be willing to collaborate with other animal health care professionals to ensure quality health care service for cattle

  5. Hoof Trimmers Association members should assume accountability for their professional actions

  6. Hoof Trimmers Association members should be willing to safeguard the public and the profession against individuals deficient in professional competence or ethics

  7. Hoof Trimmers Association members should communicate to person/s responsible for animals, deficiencies in animal comfort areas, and a recommendation in which to rectify the problem

Ideals

  1. Hoof Trimmers shall strive to participate in defining, upholding and improving standards of professional practice and education

  2. Hoof Trimmers shall strive to contribute to the professions body of knowledge.

  3. Hoof Trimmers Association members can disagree and still be friends
