History
The Hoof Trimmers Association, Inc. evolved from a small
group of hoof trimmers in Minnesota who started meeting
in 1990 and 1991. In the winter of 1993, that
group expanded to 15 hoof trimmers from South Dakota,
Minnesota and Wisconsin, who got together in Cold Spring,
Minn., to hear Dr. Ladd Siebert give a presentation
about hoof trimming. Then in the summer of 1994
about 80 people from across the United States gathered
in Wisconsin to exchange news, information and experiences
about hoof trimming. The group decided to hold
a business meeting and formally organize as the Hoof
trimmers Association, Inc. and continue to meet every
18th month. Since then, over 300 people from over
30 states and 7 countries have attended each of the
Hoof Health Conferences, which were held in New York,
California, Minnesota and Ohio.
The Association’s objective is to provide educational
opportunities and mutual support for hoof trimmers and
to promote quality trimming. It accomplishes this
by publishing a quarterly newsletter and hosting a continuing-education
conference every 18th month for anyone interested in
hoof care. Membership is open to anyone interested
in hoof care. Currently, hoof trimmers, veterinarians,
dairy producers, nutritionists, consultants and researchers
belong to the organization.
