What is a ListServe?

Listserves are an easy and effective way to talk to your peers, get answers to various questions and serve as a GREAT way to network online. Plus all you need to participate is an e-mail address. [ top ]

How Do I Join?
If you are a member, you are automatically joined to the listserve. If you are new to the association, and haven’t been signed up to the listserve, please submit your request to HTA. Simply let us know your name and email address and that's it. You will receive a confirmation message with other important details. The list will be reset on December 1 of each year, so you need to send your renewal in by then to continue this benefit. [ top ]

How Do I Send a Message?
To post a message to the ListServe group . . . simply send an eMail message to: HTA@HTA.talklist.com (Please Note: The address is not case-sensitive.) Your message is then automatically sent to everyone in the ListServe group. And, if you want to respond to a message, simply select Reply to Sender from your mailbox - just like other eMail messages. It's that easy! (No commercial emails allowed). [ top ]

How Do I Search the Archives?
Archives are located here. You may search the archives by keywords. If you are a member of the association as of May 9, 2005, you are automatically entered as a member of this list, with out a password. Simply use your email address that we have on hand to enter the archives. If you joined after May 9, 2005, you need to become approved, so please click on “join hta” for review. You will receive confirmation shortly after. The list will be reset on December 1 of each year, so you need to send your renewal in by then to continue this benefit. [ top ]

Who Receives my Message(s)?
All members are subscribed to this list. This currently includes active members, associate members, and corporate members/sponsors. As of December 1, 2005, this benefit will be exclusively for active and corporate members only. [ top ]

Netiquette Tips
How to Make the ListServe More Functional:

Here are some netiquette rules & tips on the polite usage of the listserves. In addition, legal guidelines are included at the bottom for your use.

ORIGINAL POST
  1. When you are the person posting a question, be sure that you entitle it with a good, concise, explanatory title in the subject line.
  2. If you must post a long message, warn the other subscribers with a statement in the body of the message at the top: Example: WARNING: LONG MESSAGE.
REPLIES & ME TOOs
  1. If your message is an informative response to someone's question, from which everyone can learn, you should respond and send your reply message to everyone.

However, try to avoid re-sending the entire message you are replying to. Cut and paste the relevant parts when replying, and please do not re-send a digest back to the listserve.

Remember: when you click on "reply" to a posting, your response is posted to the entire listserve.
  2. If your reply is simply a request to receive a copy of what someone has offered to share, or simply to agree with someone (such as: "Me, too"), please do not reply to the entire group.

Instead, send your response directly to the e-mail address of the person who posted the message by clicking on your "Forward to" button, and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you are responding.
AUTOSIGNATURE

Always remember to include a full "autosignature" block at the bottom of the messages you post so that other subscribers will know who you are and how to reach you directly.
