About the Speakers
William A. Zimmer D.V.M. - Dr. Zimmer is the President of Bio-Vet, Inc., of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. He is a 1988 graduate of The University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. He spent 2 years in mixed animal practice, primarily working with dairy clients. Dr. Zimmer left a successful mixed animal practice in 1990 to concentrate on animal nutrition and natural systems of animal production. While his current focus is on direct fed microbial systems for animals, he also has extensive knowledge in the interrelationship of animal health, nutrition and soil biological and fertility systems. Since 1990, Dr. Zimmer has been staff veterinarian for Midwestern Bio-Ag, a biological and organic agricultural consulting company in the upper Midwest. His primary responsibilities with the company include farm consulting, product formulation, research and development. He also takes particular interest in high forage dairy rations, plant mineralization and the relationship of forage quality to soil fertility practices. As Bio-Vet’s President, Dr. Zimmer is involved with all aspects of the company. He specializes in development of direct fed microbial products, incorporating DFM’s into farm programs, educating clients/animal producers on the proper use and expectations of probiotics and nutrition, and he researches the affects of DFM’s on various production animal systems.
Ladd Siebert D.V.M. - Dr. Ladd Siebert was born and raised on a Registered Hereford ranch in Kansas. After high school he served four years in the U.S. Army. In 1978 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and moved to Eureka, SD where he and his wife Mary Jo still reside. They have 8 children, seven sons and one daughter. He is a member of the Hoof Trimmers Association and served on the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2005. For most of the past 33 years he has devoted about 9 months per year to hoof trimming, most of this on dairy cows. The remaining 3 months he works as a traditional veterinarian in a beef cow-calf practice. He learned the basics of hoof trimming from his father, Rex L. Siebert, the founder of the Kansas Hoof Trimming Method. During his career Ladd has trimmed in excess of 155,000 head of cattle and has worked to develop the theory and science that underlies the Kansas Method.
